The plot follows the tale of two Mormon evangelists as they strive to promote their faith with the residents of a small Ugandan village. Crafted by the authors of South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, in addition to the record-breaking EGOT holder, Robert Lopez, the score is famous for earning its very own Tony Award.
In reply to pleas from actors to reassess the depiction of black characters in light of issues about racial justice, a few lyrics and points of the storyline were marginally altered back in 2021. Nevertheless, the themes of friendship, faith, and hope, which go beyond all religions, remain unchanged throughout the play.
In their evaluation, The New York Daily News portrays how The Book of Mormon is a show where you regularly find yourself laughing one moment and subsequently uncover your mouth agape the next, eventually tearing up and, finally, rooting for the primary singers. Writers Stone and Parker are infamous for their "take-no-prisoners, nothing-is-sacred approach to humor."
Furthermore, Lopez shows a knack for thumbing his nose at contemporary conventions. As all three share credit for the book, music, and words, this production can be characterized as "foolish, heartfelt, and exceptionally impolite, while the score uniformly upbeat and clever keeps the acts in this Book rotating smoothly.”
