Conceived by the creators of South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, in addition to the record-breaking Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony holder, Robert Lopez, the musical score is notable for receiving its very own Tony Award.

In response to requests from actors to reassess the representation of black characters in light of concerns about racial equality, a few lyrics and elements of the storyline were slightly modified back in 2021. Nonetheless, the ideas of friendship, faith, and hope, which transcend all religions, persist consistent during the play.
In their review, The New York Daily News describes how The Book of Mormon is a performance where you often catch yourself laughing one moment and afterwards discover your mouth agape the following, eventually tearing up and, eventually, cheering for the primary singers. Writers Stone and Parker are notorious for their "take-no-prisoners, nothing-is-sacred approach to humor."

Additionally, Lopez demonstrates a talent for thumbing his nose at current conventions. As all three share credit for the script, music, and words, this performance can be described as "foolish, heartfelt, and exceptionally crude, while the score consistently upbeat and intelligent keeps the pages in this Book rotating smoothly.”
