All the way from Broadway, it’s time for New York to gear up and get ready as the musical comedy Book of Mormon will be coming to in New York at Eugene O'Neill Theatre on Friday 8th August 2025.
The witty and sometimes humorously offensive musical Book of Mormon is focused on of two Mormon Elders in training to become missionaries – Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham, who are tasked with a mission to a remote village in Uganda to preach to its residents. The play deliberately satirizes religion in general through the eyes of the pair, as Cunningham comes up with fact mixed with fiction to teach religion to the locals.
The Book of Mormon was created by Robert Lopez, Trey Parker, and Matt Stone, the same creators of the animated TV series South Park and the Broadway musical Avenue Q.

Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham are two missionaries of the Mormons tasked with a mission to a remote Ugandan village. Their mission is to convert the villagers to their religion, but they realize upon their arrival that their job is more demanding than they had imagined, given the great deal of local issues that the villagers are against such as a local warlord, an HIV/AIDS epidemic, and poverty among others. The pair then come to accept that they must employ more unusual ways to convert the population than the usual means that they know.
It is in this duo's unique dynamic where the performance of The Book of Mormon is outstanding – allowing a serious topic of religion to be blasphemed and made fun of with comedy, showtunes, and a bit of crude language, yet still remaining inoffensive to theatre fans. Since its opening night in 2011, the The Book of Mormon has been received positively despite its manner of conveying its message. The church itself supported the musical, buying ads and releasing marketing marketing material that stated: “You’ve seen the play, now read the book.” In its West End performances, the repeatedly sold-out shows were proof of The Book of Mormon’s success. Though most viewers were already drawn in given the content and theme of the play, according to The Guardian, it was even to their surprise that “suddenly you realize you’re in for not just humour but a a thought provoking tale that just keeps on getting better.” The musical’s run in Australia just as successful, with the Sydney Morning Herald even proclaiming that the Book of Mormon is a “dynamite production of a show that has consistently been called the funniest Broadway musical of all time.”
What comes as no surprise however is that , The Book of Mormon’s several productions all over the world have earned it nine Tony Awards, four Drama Desk Awards, three Outer Circle Critics awards, four Olivier Awards, and two Helpmann Awards.
This upbeat, happy, and totally hilarious musical continues its tour in New York.
