Eugene O'Neill Theatre | New York, New York

This Friday 2nd August 2024, you could be in New York to experience what Vogue Magazine called “the filthiest, most offensive, and—surprise—sweetest thing you’ll see on Broadway this year” when The Book of Mormon comes to the iconic Eugene O'Neill Theatre. This Broadway musical, written in part by South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, tells the hilarious tale of two Latter-Day Saints missionaries attempting to bring faith in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to a Ugandan village only to discover that for some men and women, faith is the furthest concern on their minds. The story provides a loving satire of missionary movements while making fun of and embracing the American art form of the inspirational book musical. Audiences will laugh at this tuneful and truly funny musical that New York Post reports “has heart”. Get your seats to watch Book of Mormon by clicking the Buy Tickets button below.

The storyline traces the tale of two Mormon proselytizers as they endeavor to share their faith with the locals of a tiny Ugandan village. Conceived by the authors of South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, as well as the record-breaking EGOT recipient, Robert Lopez, the music is famous for receiving its very own Tony Award.

In reaction to appeals from cast members to review the representation of black characters in light of concerns about racial fairness, a couple of lyrics and aspects of the plot were somewhat altered back in 2021. However, the ideas of friendship, faith, and optimism, which go beyond all faiths, persist the same across the show.
In their review, The New York Daily News portrays how The Book of Mormon is a performance where you regularly find yourself laughing one minute and afterwards realize your mouth agape the following, eventually tearing up and, finally, cheering for the lead singers. Writers Stone and Parker are well-known for their "take-no-prisoners, nothing-is-sacred technique to humor."

Additionally, Lopez demonstrates a talent for thumbing his nose at contemporary conventions. As all three share credit for the book, music, and words, this performance can be labeled as "foolish, heartfelt, and remarkably crude, while the score uniformly bright and clever keeps the pages in this Book rotating seamlessly.”

The Eugene O'Neill Theatre is considered one of the top venues for in-demand Broadway shows in all of New York! Come the performance area at New York for the ultimate viewing event of The Book of Mormon.
