The Book of Mormon is a play about religious conversion, specifically Mormon missionaries named Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham, as they are entrusted to represent and preach their religion’s faith and teachings to a small local village in Uganda. They come to find out however, the locals are indifferent to their preaching, as they are dealing with their own personal problems. The pair then each use their own way to convert the locals, with Cunnigham’s often involving adding fake stories to his teachings.
To date, The Book of Mormon has garnered several awards in both Broadway and West End, including nine Tony Awards out of fourteen total nominations, including for Best Musical after its debut in 2011, four Drama Desk Awards, and three Outer Circle Critics awards.
