The Book of Mormon

Book of Mormon, co-written by South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, is coming to the fan favorite Eugene O'Neill Theatre in New York, New York on Wednesday 17th April 2024. This comedy-musical has been described as “filthy, offensive, and sweet” by Vogue Magazine since its story of two Latter-Day Saints missionaries and their quest to preach the faith to a remote Ugandan Village shows real characters rather than cariactures. From the first song “Hello!” to the closing musical number, audiences will laugh, smile, and feel enriched by this surprisingly moving tale. But don’t just take our word for it, when audiences keep coming back for more, even after their initial opening run in 2011. The storyline follows the tale of two Mormon missionaries as they strive to spread their faith with the residents of a tiny Ugandan community. Crafted by the creators of South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, in addition to the record-breaking Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony recipient, Robert Lopez, the music is famous for earning its very own Tony Award.

In reaction to pleas from cast members to reexamine the depiction of black characters in light of concerns about racial fairness, a handful of lyrics and elements of the plot were somewhat adjusted back in 2021. Nonetheless, the ideas of friendship, faith, and optimism, which transcend all religions, remain the same throughout the play.
In their review, The New York Daily News reveals how The Book of Mormon is a production where you frequently find yourself laughing one moment and subsequently uncover your mouth agape the subsequent, finally tearing up and, eventually, cheering for the main singers. Writers Stone and Parker are well-known for their "take-no-prisoners, nothing-is-sacred method to humor."

Moreover, Lopez exemplifies a knack for thumbing his nose at current conventions. As all three share credit for the book, songs, and words, this production can be characterized as "foolish, heartfelt, and extraordinarily impolite, while the score continually lively and clever keeps the scenes in this Book moving smoothly.”

The Eugene O'Neill Theatre is viewed as one of the leading locations for popular Broadway productions in the whole New York! Drop by the stage at New York for the optimal viewing encounter of The Book of Mormon.
