The narrative traces the tale of two Mormon missionaries as they strive to promote their faith with the locals of a small Ugandan settlement. Developed by the authors of South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, as well as the record-breaking Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony holder, Robert Lopez, the music is famous for garnering its very own Tony Award.

In reaction to appeals from cast members to review the representation of black characters in light of issues about racial equality, a handful of lyrics and elements of the narrative were slightly modified back in 2021. Nevertheless, the concepts of friendship, faith, and hope, which surpass all religions, remain unchanged across the performance.
In their review, The New York Daily News reveals how The Book of Mormon is a performance where you regularly catch yourself laughing one minute and afterwards discover your mouth agape the subsequent, ultimately tearing up and, eventually, rooting for the lead singers. Writers Stone and Parker are infamous for their "take-no-prisoners, nothing-is-sacred method to humor."

Additionally, Lopez demonstrates a knack for thumbing his nose at contemporary norms. As all three share credit for the script, music, and words, this performance can be characterized as "foolish, heartfelt, and exceptionally impolite, while the score continually upbeat and shrewd keeps the pages in this Book moving effortlessly.”
