The plot traces the journey of two Mormon evangelists as they strive to promote their faith with the inhabitants of a modest Ugandan village. Conceived by the creators of South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, along with the record-breaking Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony recipient, Robert Lopez, the music is notable for earning its very own Tony Award.

In reaction to pleas from actors to reexamine the portrayal of black characters in light of worries about racial justice, a couple of lyrics and elements of the storyline were marginally adjusted back in 2021. Nevertheless, the ideas of friendship, faith, and optimism, which transcend all faiths, remain unchanged across the play.
In their review, The New York Daily News describes how The Book of Mormon is a show where you often catch yourself laughing one minute and afterwards realize your mouth agape the following, finally tearing up and, finally, rooting for the lead singers. Writers Stone and Parker are notorious for their "take-no-prisoners, nothing-is-sacred method to humor."

Additionally, Lopez exemplifies a talent for thumbing his nose at current conventions. As all three share credit for the script, music, and words, this performance can be labeled as "foolish, heartfelt, and exceptionally crude, while the score uniformly lively and shrewd keeps the acts in this Book turning smoothly.”

The Eugene O'Neill Theatre is viewed as one of the leading venues for in-demand Broadway shows in all of New York! Drop by the performance area at New York for the ultimate viewing event of The Book of Mormon.
